Fishing 1, blogging 0

IMG_5861It’s just one of those days. By the time I come off the river, I’ll have some substantive thing or two. But for now, I defer to yesterday’s card trick.

And another Vlog: throwing down the clandestine card gauntlet

Or . . . As they say, “doing a card trick.

My eyes

Really have decided to stage an optical insurrection against me.

I’d like to say that impending dependency on eyeglasses for the intricacies of life has no trauma associated with it.

I’d futhermore like to able to read that last sentence in my wordpress app without them.

Okay, maybe even quality’s going to bite the bullet today

The best laid plans . . .

Quality over quantity today, people

If I have anything to say about it, I’ll be posting a slightly-better Vlog/rant/spleen-vent today.  Ideas are pouring in.  Let’s see what kind of damage I can do.

Who knew that naming a protagonist was such hard work?

So I’m sitting at thIMG_5651e kitchen table with my daughter, trying to name the principal character for my novel.

It’s not that easy.  I’m on to something, but that could all start running with a wheel in the sand any minute.

Dear fellow authors who come here:  Was a this a big deal to you, or did you just run a nomenclature lottery and call it a day?

Thanks Leif Enger. Now I’m totally thrown

IMG_4768Ever since I read Leif Enger’s awesome Peace Like a River, and Stant Litore’s What Our Eyes Have Witnessed, I’ve almost felt like the farce I was going to write now feels . . . um, well . . . farcical.

But now, my kind has hit upon something possibly cooler, more complex, somewhat serious, and may have some existential echoes of something-or-other in it, too.

Enger’s influences named at the end of his book seem to cut across the plains.  But then I realized, so do mine.  I seriously have no need to be like anybody else.  So now, I’ll maintain my curiosity about what other do to conjure the old inspirational wellspring, but beyond that I’m just going to go with what I know: I am a complete mess of a human being, and I will, like the gravitational boomerang effect utilized by Apollo 13, bring something amazing out of whatever inertia I do have, from wherever it comes from.

I’ll also stop ending sentences with a preposition.

and another word about Vlogging

Wow.  If you add up the sum total of the cathartic reactions I’m getting to the “aesthetically compromised man in his backyard talking about stuff” video, it’s starting to make me think my wife may have been on to something when she told me I need to do that sort of thing.

Of course, there is my cautionary side.  My traffic stats show an unusual plurality towards that last video entry.  But traffic accidents, fights, and the uber-melancholic Joseph Merrick, The Elephant Man also drew crowds that tested the Barabbas-level jurisprudence of the masses.

But since the “rant”—if you will—is something that comes to me a natural consequence of my personality, why not?  I actually predict they will get a little better.  The idea that I’m speaking to a camera when no one is home creates a slight issue of acclimation for me.  But not much.  I’ll get it.

The Ritalin Diaries

So it appears the video blogging might be a hit.  I’m taking on comments all over the place from people saying “you have a natural gravitas that bespeaks a man encumbered with an intellect few of us could bear upon our backs.”

Okay. That’s not true.  Most of you are asking me if I have Attention Deficit Disorder.

But . . . apparently, my ADD Broadcasts are going to be popular.
